Handmade Cupcakes in Bloomfield, Pittsburgh's Little Italy
Bloomfield is Pittsburgh's Little Italy, and for four days every August, Liberty Avenue turns into the region's largest heritage festival. Patti's Pastries works Little Italy Days from the pink cupcake truck every year, most recently August 13 to 16, 2026, serving the same handmade gourmet cupcakes our family has been baking for over 40 years.
The neighborhood is a natural fit for us. Bloomfield is full of families, row houses, corner bakeries, and people who know the difference between a real pastry and a factory one.
Little Italy Days on Liberty Avenue
Little Italy Days is the one event we get asked about more than any other. The festival runs the length of Liberty Avenue from Thursday through Sunday, with live music, the heritage parade, the Miss Little Italy pageant, and block after block of food. The truck sets up on the avenue and runs from open to close.
Our Cannoli cupcake, Tiramisu cupcake, and Italian Lemon cupcake were made with this crowd in mind, and they sell alongside the best sellers all weekend. If you are coming out for the festival, find the pink trailer and get there early. Flavors sell out by the afternoon on Saturday.
What to expect from the truck at Little Italy Days
Four days is a long festival. Here is how the weekend goes for us on Liberty Avenue, year after year.
Thursday
Opening night. Lighter crowds, the full flavor lineup, and the best chance to get exactly what you came for.
Friday
The after-work crowd arrives. Cannoli and Tiramisu cupcakes move fastest once the live music starts.
Saturday
Parade day and the busiest day of the festival. We bake extra and still sell down by late afternoon.
Sunday
Families and the last of the inventory. Whatever is left goes home in boxes, so come early.
Catering parties and offices around Bloomfield
Outside of festival week we cater birthdays, showers, graduation parties, and office events in Bloomfield and the neighborhoods around it: Friendship, Garfield, Shadyside, and Lawrenceville. West Penn Hospital sits right on Liberty Avenue, and hospital departments are some of our most regular corporate customers.
For a house party on a Bloomfield side street we usually deliver boxed cupcakes or set up a tiered display on your table. For a bigger block party or a school event, we bring the truck. Either way, everything is baked fresh by our family the day it is served.
Book 4 to 6 weeks ahead for anything larger than a few dozen, and earlier around the holidays.
Flavors that fit a Bloomfield crowd
These are the flavors we lean on for Bloomfield events, on top of the nine best sellers that are always on the truck.
- Cannoli: ricotta cream, chocolate chips, the works, in cupcake form.
- Tiramisu: espresso soaked cake with mascarpone frosting.
- Italian Lemon: bright, light, and the first thing to go on a hot August afternoon.
- Brownie Batter: our number one seller everywhere, and Bloomfield is no exception.
- Gluten friendly cupcakes, so the whole family can share the box.

Bloomfield, Friendship, Garfield, and Lawrenceville
Bloomfield sits between the Bloomfield Bridge and Penn Avenue, with Liberty Avenue as its spine and West Penn Hospital anchoring the middle of it. The row houses, the social clubs, and the bakeries that have been there for generations give the neighborhood a reputation for taking dessert seriously, which suits us.
The neighborhoods on every side of it are part of the same run for us. Friendship and Garfield across Penn Avenue, Shadyside to the south, and Lawrenceville down the hill with Children's Hospital, the breweries, and the Butler Street shops. A Bloomfield delivery and a Lawrenceville delivery are ten minutes apart, so we group them.
We cater offices at the hospitals, birthday parties on the side streets, church festivals in the parish halls, and the occasional block party where the neighbors close the street and want the pink truck at the end of it.
